Behold the terrors of DOOM The Dark Ages’ cosmic realm

It’s not just hell, but also the cosmic realm that the DOOM Slayer will be ripping and tearing his way across in DOOM: The Dark Ages.

Time to put down some squids

As every action fan should be aware by now, DOOM: The Dark Ages is right around the corner. The next installment of the premier action franchise, this new DOOM will serve as a prequel to the saga that soft-rebooted the series in 2016.

So of course, you know what to expect, lots of demons and plenty of ripping and tearing. That’s not to say that there aren’t new elements though, as fans have seen airships, a new arch-villain, melee weaponry (and freshly refocused combat to take advantage), and some demon redesigns. But if you thought that the ‘new’ was going to stop there, oh how you were mistaken.

Just revealed today in a special PlayStation-centric trailer, is DOOM: The Dark Ages‘ cosmic realm. And yes, that’s exactly what you think it is, and does include that massive Cthulian monster that we saw floating around the web last week.

Today, id Software revealed a never-before-seen location and enemy within DOOM™: The Dark Ages. The DOOM Slayer will explore the strange lands of the Cosmic Realm, battling insane enemies including the monstrous Cosmic Baron and otherworldly Cacodemon.

Bethesda press release

So, are Cacodemons native to the cosmic realm? Seems where that’s heading, but either way the game is looking stupendous, though that big squid-head is gonna have his work cut out for him if he’s looking to drive the Slayer mad. Frankly, we can’t see that happening any more than it has already.

But with the move in mind and even more secrets to yet be revealed, it definitely looks like DOOM: The Dark Ages is going to be anything but predictable. For a prequel, that’s pretty great to see. We’re not far off from launch now either, with DOOM: The Dark Ages set to debut for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on May the 15th.
