Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3 enters development, promises “large-scale battles”

Prepare your bolters brothers, Space Marine 3 is coming, and it sounds like it’ll be the biggest game yet in Saber Interactive’s series.

In the grim darkness of the far future

For Warhammer 40,000 fans, and those who just like good action games, 2024’s Space Marine 2 was a true gem. From Saber Interactive and publisher Focus Entertainment, the sequel brought the original game’s Titus back to face off against both a Tyranid swarm and an insidious Chaos threat.

The game’s action was both excellently-realized and unrelenting, tasking players with melee and ranged combat against a deep assortment (and at times, horde) of foes. And when they had their fill of the campaign, fans were even able to dig into what was essentially a set of small-scale side-stories and a suite of multiplayer options. Now take all of that and mix it up with what was a gorgeous presentation and you’ve got one of the best action titles of the year.

Another sequel was probably a foregone conclusion with all of that in mind, and indeed one has just been revealed. Also hailing from Saber Interactive, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 sounds like it’s going to be poised to take the Games Workshop property even further.

“We have been honored by the incredible response from fans following the launch of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. We will continue to support the game with exciting content and regular updates in the coming years. Today we are thrilled to announce that the adventure will continue with Space Marine 3. Players can look forward to an immersive campaign, a multiplayer mode, and innovations that will redefine the standards of third-person action games. Developed in close collaboration with Games Workshop, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 will take the genre to new heights by introducing large-scale battles that are even more spectacular,” said John Bert, Deputy CEO of Focus Entertainment Publishing, a subsidiary of the PULLUP Entertainment Group.

Space Marine 2 has proven to be a transformative game for Saber. It is the culmination of everything we have learned about game development in our 25 years in the business. We are now starting to develop Space Marine 3, a game that carries with it tremendous expectations from our rapidly expanding fanbase. While we will continue to support and grow the Space Marine 2universe over the coming years, we will take all our learnings and apply them to an even bigger and more spectacular game for the third installment. We view this as an opportunity to create a true love letter to the Warhammer 40.000 universe,” said Matthew Karch, CEO of Saber Interactive.

Focus Entertainment press release

So where does all of this leave Space Marine 2?

Yes, Space Marine 3 is in development, and sounding exciting already, but don’t worry about what the future might hold for last year’s release. According to Focus, the title will still be supported, just as was intended, in its post-launch period.

Fans have seen quite a bit of that support already of course, with fresh drops adding in new weapons and multiplayer customization options. From the sound of things, that train will keep rolling for the foreseeable future. The press release adds that Space Marine 2 will “maintain an ambitious content roadmap in the coming years, including the upcoming release of Horde mode.”

So basically, hold tight. Space Marine 2 is here for the present. As for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3, stay tuned, because you can expect more information to “be revealed at a later date”.
