Conan the Barbarian hits early access for Mortal Kombat 1, wide-release on January 28th

The big screen version of Conan the Barbarian is starting to arrive for Mortal Kombat 1, set to bring the pain as a part of Khaos Reigns.

While they weren’t overly authentic to the source material, the Conan the Barbarian movies from the 80s were still something special. They kind of changed the game, since barbarian-themed movies weren’t all that high budget at the time, even though the genre was fairly popular.

Conan certainly changed that, as the original blockbuster delivered one of the best-loved films in the genre, one which still stands head and shoulders above pretty much all others. That’s not even mentioning the star power, since both installments starred the biggest action hero in the world at the time, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Now available for Mortal Kombat 1 as a guest kombatant, Conan has brought his movie looks (complete with Arnie likeness) and attitude to bear against NetherRealm’s roster of fighters. Armed with the mighty Atlantean sword, even the worst of Outworld might find this Cimmerian no easy task to defeat.

Born on a battlefield, Conan has become one of the most formidable warriors the world has ever seen through relentless toil and kombat. Sold into slavery after his parents are slain and village destroyed by the malevolent warlord Thulsa Doom, he is eventually freed by his master and embarks on a quest for vengeance, his journey culminating in the defeat of Doom, liberating thousands from his sorcerous grip. In Mortal Kombat 1Conan stands ready to defend Earthrealm against the vile beings that mean to conquer it.

Warner Bros Games press release

Not a terrible ‘Arnold’ voice! Gotta love those classic Conan poses too. As mentioned, Conan the Barbarian is a part of Khaos Reigns, the post-launch expansion for Mortal Kombat 1. Not that he’s exclusive to the expansion pack however, as fans will also be able to grab a solo download, coming up soon on January 28th.

For those who have the full pack already though, you can get to downloading right now, as he’s included in the Early Access period. Conan is the latest in a line of new playable fighters for the game, which also includes Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, and Scream’s Ghostface. One more will be making his way to the game some time this year as well, with Terminator’s liquid metal foe, the T-1000.
