Steam gets Star Wars Outlaws as the game’s Wild Card DLC pack arrives

Making its way to Steam today is Ubisoft’s recent title Star Wars Outlaws, which also has some fresh high-rolling DLC.

Deal me in

It’s probably not a stretch to say that Star Wars Outlaws hasn’t been the hit that Ubisoft thought it might be. The open-world action game received a fair amount of derision upon release, and while there were certainly other factors at play, it was partially due to some widely reported glitching and questionable gameplay options.

In response to that, Ubisoft has launched a pretty large update today, plus bringing the game to Valve’s ever popular Steam, giving it a bigger possible audience. Also notable is that Star Wars Outlaws’ arrival includes some freshly available downloadable content.

That pack is dubbed Wild Card, and brings the rogue in contact with none other than the legendary Lando Calrissian. Last seen in his younger days in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lando is a classic hero who’s as much a gambler as he is an adventurer.

Naturally, since Star Wars Outlaws takes place in the era of the Empire, this is the older Lando, more familiar to fans of the original trilogy, and he’s just as brash and cocky as ever. Just a heads up though, as in order to actually play the pack, you’ll have to have completed the Gunsmith and The High Roller quests from the main game’s campaign.

Updating the adventure

While the pack is a separate purchase from the base title, the aforementioned update TU1.4.0 is naturally free of charge and improves a number of things that fans have taken issue with. Changes include the ability to choose how player-character Kay Vess approaches situations, meaning that you don’t necessarily have to pick stealth or all-out action. It’s up to you.

Enemy AI has also been beefed up, with the addition of “detection improvements” according to Ubi. Players will now be notified as to when Kay’s been seen, allowing fans to try and stay hidden or pull their blasters. If they do choose to have Kay draw down though, they should find that foes now will better use cover and search for improved sight lines to return fire.

Speaking of enemies, Ubisoft says that “weak points have been added to reward strategic gameplay, which if targeted can trigger explosions or give players a way to defeat enemies in spectacular new ways.” Assisting in those battles are re-tunings for blaster and pickup weapons, and the ability to carry two-handed weaponry while making use of ladders and grapple points.

All of the above reportedly comes in addition to what sounds like some visual fixes: “Animation for dialogue scenes, the option to toggle off the cinematic lens, the visibility of distant lights and much more have been added to improve the experience across the galaxy”, according to the publisher.

The full patch notes can be found here if you’d like to read through them in detail, and the game is on sale right now as well, for those who were waiting on the above. Star Wars Outlaws is available for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, and carries discounts of up to 25% off the retail price for a limited time.
