Atomfall to tell its tale of nuclear quarantine and medieval regression in March

Exactly what’s happening in the new trailer for Rebellion’s Atomfall, we don’t know. But we’re more than a little interested to find out.

Yeah, that’s creepy

If you haven’t heard of Atomfall, it’s time you got familiar with what looks like it might be a sleeper for the first part of 2025. Just dated for a March launch, the first-person action/survival title comes from developer Rebellion, and it seems like a mashup of themes that’s hitting all the right notes.

Atomfall’s campaign tells the story of a quarantine zone that surrounds a failed nuclear reactor. But this isn’t what you’re no doubt picturing. Oh sure, on your way into the zone surrounding the Windscale nuclear power station, you’ll encounter military camps and the like, but you’ll also find old pagan ruins.

And it sure sounds like you’ll also be running across (and afoul of) a good number of people who’ve been cut off from the world at large for a long, long time. That kind of isolation is bound to do things to a person’s mind, something that seems like it will be playing out in the creepy and forbidding Casterfell Woods...

Set in the aftermath of a nuclear disaster, Atomfall tasks players with solving the mystery of what happened at the Windscale nuclear power station. To solve this, you will need to navigate military encampments, delve through abandoned bunkers below ground and risk your life in Pagan ruins. Central to the dark mystery is the host of eccentric characters and cryptic organizations that inhabit the quarantine zone. These individuals have been cut off from the outside world for years and left to their own devices, so are anything but normal. But be careful, they aren’t all friendly and you will need to get to grips with an array of ranged and melee weapons if you are to survive.

Rebellion press release

Intrigued? Creeped out? We’re both, honestly, and are even more eagerly awaiting Atomfall’s launch for Xbox and PlayStation platforms, and the PC. Fans can look for those to land on March 27th, 2025, in both digital and physical format. The latter will be brought to stores thanks to Fireshine Games, and will come packing a pre-order bonus.

Those who reserve a copy of Atomfall will get themselves the Basic Supply Bundle DLC pack. In there, players will find “additional items and supplies to uncover as you explore, including an exclusive melee weapon variant, additional loot caches and an item recipe”, according to Rebellion.
