Playtonic’s updating of the original Yooka-Laylee, Yooka-Replaylee is coming to consoles

Console players looking forward to Yooka-Replaylee can smile this morning, as Playtonic has confirmed the updated edition is on the way.

Well looka that

Revealed just a short time ago, Yooka-Replaylee is exactly what it sounds like. Developer Playtonic went back to work on the original game in the still relatively young platforming series, to bring it up to modern snuff and then some.

Not a simple remaster, Yooka-Replaylee actually sounds like a 1.5 edition of that original Yooka-Laylee title. Added in are completely fresh elements like brand new levels to play, plus “platforming and gameplay improvements, tweaked challenges, new characters (meet Coinelius!), the new currency (Q.U.I.D.S)” and more, according to the press release. That additional comes by way of the expected visual bump, which Playtonic says will affect everything from worlds to characters, and even the user interface.

The additional details come along with the title news as well, that a console launch is now officially confirmed, and will see Yooka-Replaylee arriving for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

No, as you can see, there’s no release date just yet. Playtonic is playing that one close to the vest for now, though there is a way to actually get some hands on time with the title, and it’s coming up fast. And we mean like ‘today’ fast.

Now, don’t get too excited because we’re not talking about a downloadable demo or anything. Playtonic will actually be in attendance at EGX in London, which kicks off today. There fans will be able to play Yooka-Replaylee, as they engage with the “new and improved Glitterglaze Glacier”.

So if you’re in town for the show, you might want to make your way over to the Playtonic stand and say hi to some old friends.
