Gamescom ’24: Borderlands 4 is official, coming to consoles and PC in 2025

Borderlands is back, and we don’t mean at the movies. Gearbox just revealed the fourth installment of the legendary game series.

Head for the border

Okay, so we all know that the Borderlands movie isn’t exactly burning it up at the box office. But even so, we’re going to guess that fans won’t let that ruin the huge news that’s just been revealed at the Gamescom show. And that is that Take-Two and Gearbox have officially revealed Borderlands 4, coming to consoles and the PC next year.

The new title will send players back into action for more lootin’ and shootin’ as a Vault Hunter, but don’t assume you’ll be heading to Pandora. Nope, the planet of the previous Borderlands titles is apparently history for Borderlands 4, as there’ll be a whole new world to play in.

That’s not all either, as Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford is teasing that this new adventure will include some fresh directions for the series, plus upgrades to what fans might be used to from legacy titles.

“The team and I at Gearbox have a lot we’ve wanted to do with Borderlands since we first introduced the looter shooter genre to the world with our original game,” said Randy Pitchford, founder and President of the Gearbox Entertainment Company. “All of us at Gearbox have massive ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are putting everything we have into making everything we love about Borderlands better than ever before while taking the game to new levels in exciting new directions.”

2K Games press release

There’s no release date yet for Borderlands 4, but we do know that it’ll be landing some time in 2025, and little more specifically in Take-Two’s Fiscal Year of 2026. No, that doesn’t narrow it down a ton, but it’s something at least.

When it does arrive, expect to see Borderlands 4 ready to roll for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
