Nintendo Download: Cheers to the Years!

Nintendo celebrates ‘anniversary editions’ this week, with Minecraft and Braid, plus the revamped FPS PO’ed.

Return to the past

The veil of the years gets a little extra thin this week for Nintendo Switch players who are looking to try something new. The eShop has its usual wide selection of new games dropping, but is also celebrating some marked anniversaries.

For one thing, there’s Minecraft: 15 Year Anniversary. A game that at one time had the gaming multiverse in the palm of its blocky hand, Minecraft is still hugely successful some 15 years post-release. This week’s Minecraft: 15 Year Anniversary puts the spotlight on all that the game has been for fans with 15 days of celebration. No, this isn’t some new edition of the game, but is instead a series of drops that’ll contain 15 tracks and 40 player skins, plus the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. Yes, you read that right.

Going past that, there’s also Braid: Anniversary Edition, which actually released a few days ago. Believe it or not though, the landmark puzzler Braid has been around for a decade at this point, and if you’ve yet top play it, then you might want to grab this new remaster.

And finally, while it’s not spotlighted this week, there’s PO’ed. Originally launched on the 3DO (and later the PSOne) back in 1995, PO’ed is an FPS that casts players in the shoes of a cook-turned-soldier, who’s out escape from an alien-infested world. The game features some of the wildest enemy designs we’ve ever seen, and the remaster comes from NightDive Studios, which almost all by itself makes this one worth a try.
