Hot Toys’ lineup gets another Imperial with the forebear to the Death Trooper, the classic Star Wars comic’s Shadow Troopers.
Maybe we shoulda said “the other other black-clad Imperial”
At this point, there are a few Imperial troop-types that sport jet black armor. For one, there are the above mentioned Death Troopers, which were seen in Rogue One as well as The Mandalorian. And speaking of that show, it was also the stage for the (re)introduction of the Dark Troopers, which are straight up droids in the canon. But before either of those, there were the Shadow Troopers.
Originally called Shadow Stormtoopers in the Marvel Comics of the 70s, Shadow Troopers also wear black armor. But where they differ from Death and Dark Troopers is… well pretty much in every other way. For one thing, Shadow Trooper armor is cast from the standard Stormtrooper mold, and for another, they have cloaking devices. There’s something very rarely seen in Star Wars.
Since their intro, Shadow Troopers have appeared in a few video games, and have also gotten the odd action figure here and there. One of those came from Hot Toys, which is following up on that prior release with a new edition.
Shadow troopers are elite, highly specialized, and fanatically loyal Imperial soldiers. Identifiable by their distinctive black armor, they attack in great numbers to overwhelm their enemies.
