SDCC 23: The Dawn of DC era to play host to Beast World, the first Titans crossover event

A massive Star Conqueror has its sight set on Earth, and only one hero can hope to defeat the Necrostar: the Titan called Beast Boy.

You know his name

Fresh from the pages of Dark Crisis, where he took a serious beating and lost an eye, Beast Boy is set to be called upon once again. This time it’s for something even bigger though, as the first Titans-branded event mini is set to dawn with Beast World.

As you can tell from that title, Beast Boy won’t just be a part of the proceedings, he’ll loom large over it. And we mean that both figuratively and literally.

Clawing its way out of the pages of Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott’s Titans “Dawn of DC” comic book series comes an unprecedented threat to the DC Universe, an intergalactic Sea Star—a conqueror like Starro, but one that is far more frightening. Superman, Wonder Woman, Starfire—all are powerless to stop The Necrostar from ending all life on Earth. And the only Super Hero who can save the world is…Beast Boy?!

With Nightwing, Raven, Cyborg and the Titans beside him, can Garfield Logan rise to battle an ancient evil? Or is he doomed to become the greatest threat to the DC Universe? What will Amanda Waller do to take advantage of the situation as millions of people are changed into rampaging creatures? And can humanity survive all-powerful Super Heroes and Super-Villains transformed into ferocious beasts?

DC Comics press release

So what’s a Beast to do? Well, it turns out that there’s a specific way that Starfire’s race, the Tamaraneans, have defeated the Necrostar in the past. They turned to another of its race, the being called Starro. And since he’s nowhere to be found at this point, there’s only one option. You likely guessed it by now, and it’s that Garfield Logan has to shift into the form of a Star Conqueror.

A beastial beginning

By the sound of the press release, shifting back into good old Gar isn’t all that simple of a feat. And the Necrostar and its assault will be just the tip of the iceberg for Beast World’s narrative. Beast Boy is going to lose himself in the Starro form, and it’ll be up to the Titans to bring him back to Earth.

The team of heroes aren’t the only ones on the hunt for Starro/Beast Boy though, and if the thought of a world-destroying sea star isn’t enough to put a scare into you, wait til you hear which DCU villains are on the prowl.

Both Task Force X’ boss Amanda Waller and DC arch-villain Lex Luthor are teaming up to destroy the alien threat, and that includes Garfield.

The threat Beast Boy poses will further Amanda Waller’s crusade against metahumans and her anti-alien alliance…by any means necessary. As Waller looks for ways to take Starro Beast Boy down, she will form a cautious understanding with none other than Lex Luthor—as an expert in dealing with alien threats.

DC Comics press release

Now take that and factor in some very interesting promotional art, which you see above, that looks to feature a warped version Doctor Fate. Is that the mystical hero’s ‘beastial’ form? Kinda/sorta doesn’t look like it. Whatever it might mean though, it doesn’t look great for not only Beast Boy, but the DCU in general.

Beast World erupts in the pages of DC Comics this November.
