HeroQuest’s first expansion in 30 years, Rise of the Dread Moon hits this Saturday

It’s been a staggering three decades since tabletop fans have had an original HeroQuest expansion, but that wait comes to an end this weekend.

Cracking

If you’re a tabletop fan and you don’t know that HeroQuest is back, we can’t help you. News of the return was all over the place after all, following up on a successful crowd-fund. And since that time, we’ve seen all of the original expansion packs arrive for the title, along with some character expansions for good measure.

But now it’s time to get serious, and Avalon Hill is bringing yet another pack to the game, but this time it’s of the ‘all-new’ variety. That comes in the form of Rise of the Dread Moon, which will bring a new playable hero, new accessory items, and a new monster with the fiendish Dread Wraith. Even better, it closes out a classic lone of adventures, continuing the Elven-themed quest of The Mage in the Mirror.

The dramatic story of treachery and unrest in the elven kingdom continues in this HeroQuest Rise of the Dread Moon expansion! As a brave knight, you’re challenged to finally free Elethorn from the clutches of Zargon. Embark on dangerous quests, as you seek the aid of the Cadre of the Raven’s Veil to help stop Zargon’s forces of Dread from destroying the kingdom. Navigate through a dark labyrinth of waterways, an underground city, and more perilous locations. But be wary—for Zargon’s forces grow ever stronger with the rise of the Dread Moon! Immerse yourself in the adventure with 10 daring quests, stunning artwork, 29 detailed miniatures, and full-color tiles. Requires HeroQuest Game System to play (sold separately). Available at most major retailers including Amazon and GameStop.

Avalon Hill press release

Rise of the Dread Moon will be launching this Saturday, July 15th. That’s also HeroQuest Day, which will be marked by “a day full of streaming & questing playthroughs”. You can keep up with that via the official DiscordInstagram, and Twitter channels.

As for the pack itself, that’s set to be priced in at $44.99 USD, and does need the base game for play.
