We recently got our first looks at Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, but the real-time strategy title has already hit beta.

Games Workshop fans have never had a traditional RTS starring their favorite license, but that’s something that Frontier Developments is about to rectify. Of course, that will come by way of Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin, a real-time strategy title that was announced just about a month back.
So far we’ve seen screens and video of both Stormcast Eternals and Orkish armies, and it’s those same forces that are featured in the beta test for the title. Players can get down on said test right now too, though they’ll have to have a Frontier account (and PS Plus too, if they’re in Germany) to participate.
This is a brief glimpse of what’s to come though, so don’t expect a ton of content. More or less, those who take part will get to play as one of the two armies listed above, and engage in a “brutal tug-of-war for control of the map”. It does sound like you’ll get to experience all of the basics though, from summoning new troops, to gathering resources and accruing “victory points”. And those who prefer a more solitary play experience need not fret either, as both 1v1 online and solo play are fully supported.
Also pretty great and worth noting, is that keyboard and mouse controls are not just limited to the PC. Both the PlayStation and Xbox editions of the game will have them as options, and they’re full playable here in the beta. So use ’em if you’ve got ’em.
The Open Beta gives players an early opportunity to check out Frontier Developments’ world-class art and animation up close, as each unit on the battlefield draws significant inspiration from its tabletop counterparts. From the Stormcast Eternals’ brutal Annihilators and winged Prosecutors to the Orruk Kruleboyz’ lumbering Marshcrawla Sloggoth and mobs of Hobgrot Slittaz, authenticity is at the heart Frontier’s approach to adapting this universe for the RTS genre.

You can get in on the open beta for Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin by heading over to the sign-up page here. Fans will be able to play through July 10th at 23:59 BST (6:59 pm eastern US), when the period will come to an end. As for an official launch date for the full game, that’s still locked away in an Imperial crypt somewhere.
