The classic returns. After 2 decades SNK’s Fatal Fury/Garou is back

A fighting game legend, Fatal Fury was a huge series for SNK. Now, after 2 decades in limbo, the series is set to make a triumphant return.

Where’s that cap

Announced just today, SNK’s premier fighting game series is set to make its return. Yes I know we just had a King of Fighters, I’m not talking about that one. This past weekend’s announcement was for the original, fan-favorite title; Fatal Fury.

It might not have been SNK’s first fighting game, but Fatal Fury was probably the publisher’s first hit fighting game. Released all the way back in 1991, Fatal Fury was a smash, and led to a cavalcade of fighters, including the King series.

But be that as it may, FF disappeared from any release-calendars after the launch of Garou: Mark of the Wolves in 1999. That’s to say, until now. Check out the first teaser for the all-new Fatal Fury/Garou.

Granted, that’s not a lot to go on, but any way you slice it the return of Fatal Fury is still a marquee moment for the genre. SNK says that the game will be “a new turning point in the history of fighting games” too. With that, chances are that this won’t just be ‘another game’ in the set, but some kind of evolution.

As you can see though, this is a super-early tease, and basically n announcement that the game’s going to get made. So don’t expect to see anything else for a while, is what I’m saying.

However, that’s decidedly not the case with King of Fighters XV.

The King is still rolling

Along with the above news, SNK has also released Team Awakened Orochi for King of Fighters XV. The freshly returned team includes Orochi Yashiro, Orochi Shermie, And Orochi Chris, and leads the way for a new round of squads and more.

The next season of KOF XV DLC starts in 2023. Classic SNK fan-favorites SHINGO YABUKI and KIM KAPHWAN have been announced, with plans for long-awaited crossplay on the way. DLC characters for KOF XV include 7 currently available characters, 8 previously announced characters, as well as unannounced characters from the NEXT SEASON, for a total of over 15 planned characters. Together with the 39 playable characters in the main game, a total of 54 characters will be available in KOF XV.
