A 3rd Sonic the Hedgehog movie announced, along with live-action TV series

Sonic is going big. Bigger than he has gone already anyway, as Sega’s mascot is not only getting a new game, but also a 3rd feature film and TV Series.

Boom

Few people expected much from the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. And that was especially true after the disaster that was the reveal of Sonic himself. But that all changed. Due to fan-reaction, the film saw its release date cancelled and moved, and Sonic was retooled. Once it actually did open, it was a hit, earning nearly $320 million globally.

Lessons were learned, and those carried over to the sequel Sonic 2. That’s expected to be on schedule for launch this April the 8th. It’s got both more of what fans loved from the first movie, plus Knuckles, who’s voiced by fan-favorite actor Idris Elba.

But if you thought the action was going to stop there, you were dead wrong. Sega today has announced that a 3rd film in the set will be heading into production. It won’t be alone either, as a Paramount+ TV series is coming up too.

Knuckles will be the star of that, and yes, he’ll be voiced by Elba.

“We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed. We’ve got a remarkable partnership with Paramount, and we are excited to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them. 2022 is shaping up to be a significant year for the franchise with the second film being released this April, as well as Sonic Frontiers, the highly anticipated video game title, coming this holiday. Sonic has been beloved by fans across the world for over 30 years and we look forward to continuing to bring memorable moments and experiences to them for many years to come.”
