The Scorched ushers in Todd McFarlane’s first superhero team

Spawn’s universe is rocking and rolling these days, with a full slate of new #1 issues, and fresh heroes. And now you can add a full-on team to that.

Scorching

Is there a comic book property that’s hotter than Spawn right now? I think it’s fair to say there isn’t, since recent new first issues have cracked sales records, and been hits with fans.

That’s all due to creator Todd McFarlane and his new universe of Spawn, which is growing the brand and its character list by leaps and bounds. While we’ve already looked at books such as King Spawn and Gunslinger Spawn, there’s another coming up that’s different from everything that’s come before. That’s because it’s a team-up story.

The Scorched will unite an initial squad of six Spawn heroes, with a promised more to come.

The Scorched #1 is the first all-new issue of McFarlane’s Superhero team book. After 30 years of the regular monthly Spawn book, The Scorched gathers the best characters for three decades and puts them together into one title. McFarlane has also recruited some of the top talents in the industry for this inaugural launch.

The first issue’s initial characters in The Scorched #1 will include Reaper, Spawn, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Medieval Spawn, She-Spawn, and many more waiting in the wings.

Writer Sean Lewis and artists Stephen Segovia and Paulo Sequeria will be crafting the first arc in the book, and there is some massive talent on board for covers. The Scorched will feature alternate covers from the likes of Frank Quitely, Greg Capullo, Don Aguillo, Mark Silvestri (an Image Comics founder), Brett Booth, and of course Todd McFarlane.

As a cool little note too, The Scorched continues the cover connectivity with all of Brett Booth’s work. In all, that’s a trio of connected images, with King Spawn and Gunslinger’s respective #1’s tying in.

Look for the book both on comics store shelves, and via digital platforms, on December 15th.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
