Star Wars Episode 1 Racer port delayed indefinitely

The upcoming port of Star Wars Racer to the Switch and PS4 has been delayed once again, but this time with no new target date attached.

No racing yet

One of the best-loved games to spin out of the first of the prequel films, Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer focused on the pod racing segment from that movie. If you’ve somehow escaped seeing Episode 1, really all you have to know is that pod racing is futuristic racing set in the Star Wars universe.

At the time of the film’s release, the pod racing scenes specifically were made the focus of a game for the N64. Most recently, that game has been seeing a little bit of a renaissance too, with a special retro-collector’s edition from Limited Run, plus a port to modern consoles from Aspyr.

But the green light that will actually get the title into the hands of gamers once again seems stuck on red. The publisher has both Switch and PS4 versions in the pipe, but seem to have blown a repulsorlift or two.

Racer has already been delayed once, from early to late May, and now it has gotten another one. But this time the delay is a little more severe. Aspyr tweeted this week that the game will, for all intents and purposes, be now delayed indefinitely.

So there it is, and it’s honestly pretty understandable, especially for a smaller studio. And being that the game had a May release originally scheduled, and then rescheduled for within that same month, I can’t imagine that an actually launch is too far in the future.
