BG’s Game of the Month for January 2020 is Warcraft III

Blizzard’s remaster of Warcraft III ushers in our Game of the Month nods for 2020, in what was otherwise a very weak month otherwise.

More War

The new decade dawns, as 2020 comes roaring in. If you’re a video game fan though, it’s more like a whimper.

The first month of the new year was exceptionally weak, with little to nothing of note seeing release. And what did see launch in the first month of the new decade was… well it wasn’t all that great.

Our list of nominees for Game of the Month included such gems as Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath (for the Switch), Journey to the Savage Planet, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Warcraft III: Reforged. DBZ and Journey both garnered a vote, but in the end it was Warcraft III narrowly edging out Oddworld for our official pick.

That’s not without some consternation either. That’s because WC3’s remaster is not without a good deal of issues. While it’s based on a a great game, it doesn’t do anything particularly new to spice up that original release.

More or less, Reforged just regurgitates the same title, with spiffed up graphics. Well, that and the fact that all custom made maps automatically become property of Blizz. That in and of itself has become a major bone of contention within the fan community. Not a great move.

Nevertheless, it’s out Game of the Month for January 2020. Let’s hope for some better choices as the year rolls on.
