Sonic redesign official as new trailer hits

The new Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer showcases the redesign, fueled by fan reaction to the original look. The result? It’s pretty great honestly.

Going fast

If you haven’t been following, it’s been a long, strange journey for Sonic the Hedgehog in getting to the big screen. Some time ago we saw the original design for the CGI character, in what would be the first live-action film starring the Sega mascot.

To put it mildly, the reaction wasn’t great. Sure there were some who liked the more “realistic” (I guess?) take, but there weren’t many. Even more decided to chime in when director Jeff Fowler announced they’d be going back to the drawing board. ‘Fans are spoiled’ they chanted across social media.

Well, here we are months later, and we’ve got our first real look at the re-created Sonic. Guess what? He looks fantastic.

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Paramount Pictures

Not only does Sonic look great, but that glimpse of his world… wow. If you’re a longtime fan, it’s extremely tough not to get pumped over that.

The rest of the film takes place on Earth of course, with new human pal Tom and Jim Carrey’s Robotnik. It does look like it might be a fun time though, and there’s a bunch of the staple Carrey nuttiness in play.

Sonic the Hedgehog hits the big screen on February 14th, 2020. Now Sega, we await the announcement of a new game.
