An NYC icon, toy store FAO is set to re-open smack dab in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza. And it’ll be open before you know it.
A landmark returns
It’s been a while FAO, but it’s good to see you again. The iconic toy store was last seen in NYC around 2015, with only a slim presence for a short time after that, inside then-parent company Toys R Us’ bigger stores.
Now TRU has faded into the mist of history, and you’d be within your rights to have assumed that that was it for FAO Schwarz as well. But it most certainly is not. Like a bolt out of the blue, the store is back and in a big way.
FAO is now owned by something called ThreeSixty Brands, purchased back in 2016 from TRU. And will open its first location inside another New York institution – Rockefeller Plaza. This likely won’t be a popup shop either, if that’s what you’re thinking.
The NYC store is rumored to have a lengthy lease and seems like it will once again be a flagship location. Reportedly, ThreeSixty plans on opening other FAO’s in Queens New York’s Laguardia Airport, as well as in China.
Oh, and if you’re wondering – the piano will be on the scene, and there will probably be someone dancing on it. FAO is actually hiring right now, bringing in performers and staffers.
Watch for the store to open its doors this November.
