Hankering for a return to Sega’s classic Shenmue series? While you wait for the sequel, the first two adventures will once again be made available.
Vengeance
I’ve never been much of a Shenmue fan, but there are many gamers who are. Sega’s series has become a cult classic in gaming, and garnered praise from both players and critics. Though it’s been a while since Shenmue II, those fans are still just as hot for the third entry, which is on the schedule thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign.
But if you can’t wait for that to arrive, Sega has you covered with some re-releases. Shenmue I and II are coming back, set to arrive for the current crop of consoles and the PC next month. The Xbox One and PS4 editions will actually be getting physical releases too, in addition to digital. So you’ll actually be able to walk into your local games shop and pick up a boxed copy of Shenmue. Bene a while since that’s happened. The PC will of course be getting a Steam edition of the game, but will not have an on-disc copy made available.
Sega is promising the “best Shenmue experience to date” with this re-launch. Expect to see “modernized” features included like scalable resolution, choice of control schemes, Japanese and English voiceovers, a refreshed UI, and a host of PC graphics options.
Digital editions are up for pre-oprder right now on the big three gaming services, and tout a 10% discount. If you prefer the physical edition however, that will include a double-sided poster as a little bonus.
Whichever way you prefer your Shenmue, all versions of the game will be made available on August 21st.
