Bloodshot Salvation #9 introduces the formerly unknown history of Bloodhound

Valiant’s Bloodshot Salvation #9 is an origin story, but not for who you might think. This book tells the tale of Bloodshot’s faithful canine companion, the unstoppable Bloodhound.

Good boy?

Valiant is proud to announce BLOODSHOT SALVATION #9 – a riveting STANDALONE ORIGIN ISSUE chronicling the never-before-revealed history of Project Rising Spirit’s first prototype in nanite enhancement: the indestructible canine weapons unit codenamed Bloodhound! On May 16th,New York Times best-selling writer Jeff Lemire (The Terrifics, Black Hammer), Eisner and Harvey Award nominee Ray Fawkes (Batman: Eternal), and astonishing artist Renato Guedes (X-O MANOWAR) come together for a special one-shot tale revealing the crucial early days of the Bloodshot program…and the brutal awakening that remade an ordinary animal as a weapon of untold destruction!

I can’t say that I follow every issue of Bloodshot anymore, mainly for lack of time. But from what I have seen, Bloodhound might be the most badass “animal sidekick” in comics. I mean sure, there are ones that’ve been around longer. Bloodhound though, is basically just like his master Bloodshot – an unkillable beast. And you don’t see too many of those in the funny pages.

And he’s got a pretty wicked sounding origin too, based in the brutal trench warfare of WWI. That’s not an era that you see explored in comics all that much. So the story point is kind of neat in and of itself. It does seem a little odd to me that the tech to power Bloodhound was around back then. But hey, this is the comics, and pretty much anything is possible.

In the wire-strewn trenches of World War I, witness the true story of a good boy gone bad… Before he found his place at Ray Garrison’s side, Bloodshot’s loyal companion learned the depths of mankind’s inhumanity toward brother and beast alike on the battlefields of France. Now, as the Kaiser’s war machine approaches, find out firsthand how a beloved comrade with four legs and a soul full of fury inspired a legacy that still stands more than a century on!

Watch for Bloodshot Salvation #9 to take the wraps off of this furry friend’s origin on May the 16th.
