Frank Miller’s Xerxes coming up this April from Dark Horse

Return to the 300 universe for  look at the Persian Empire in Frank Miller’s Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander.

Before the 300

“300 was an interlude in the great story of the Persian Wars. The battle of 300 represented one episode in a much greater series of wars,” said Xerxes creator Frank Miller. “This series tells the story of the first great clash of civilizations, the first bloody contest between east and west. The odds vastly favor the Persian forces, but the Greeks have Alexander, the greatest military commander of all time.”

How close to actual world history the new series stays isn’t too clear, but Xerxes was indeed a force to be reckoned with. It wasn’t for some time that the Greeks finally repelled his forces for good. On the flip side of course, Alexander needs little introduction since he was one of the greatest conquerors of all time.

If you’re a fan of Miller’s hard-hitting 300 though, it’s hard to imagine not being excited for this one. Believe it or not, Xerxes has been 20 years in the making, and should fill in a ton of history. And it’s going to have a pretty terrific creative crew too.

Led by the art and writing of Miller himself, Xerxes will also feature his Dark Knight III colorist Alex Sinclair. If you saw any of the latest DK series, then you know that’s a very good thing indeed.

Watch for this one to hit on April 4th, 2018. You might want to reserve yourself a copy.
