Harbinger Renegades #1 (Comics) Preview

The latest entry in the sags of the psiots, Harbinger Renegades #1 hits in November.

The Future of Valiant continues in Harbinger Renegades

Wanna pretty much be instantly sold on this book? Read this:

“I’ve been describing the series as ‘Jack Kirby’s Trainspotting,’ which is as good an elevator pitch as any,” series writer Rafer Roberts told Newsarama. “The Renegades are trying to save the world from the bottom up. They’ve already taken on the world’s greatest super villain… and failed. In fact, the argument could be made that they actually made the world worse. Learning from that mistake, they are focusing on battles that they can win. Small victories are still victories.”

“Jack Kirby’s Transpotting” is pretty damn tantalizing as a come-on for Harbinger Renegades. Sounds like a pretty incredible premise too. Of course, all this is especially intriguing if you’ve been following these characters all along. Still though, even for new readers, that’s kind of hard not to be interested in.

If you are one of those newbies, then you should know that psiots are regular humans, but powered with special psychic abilities. That doesn’t strictly mean that they can read minds either. One of the Renegades team can project a gigantic, unstoppable physical form for himself, while arguably the most famous of the bunch Faith, can actually fly. They’re in the same vein as Marvel’s mutants, but more grounded.

In Harbinger Renegades, we’re looking at a world that’s finally discovered them on a large scale.

Six months ago, a secret team of renegade whistleblowers leaked the existence of these extraordinarily dangerous individuals to a stunned world. Today, all across the country, crude, DIY psiot activation attempts have left hundreds brain damaged…or worse. The emergence of a new psiot in a community often leads to riots and mass violence. Gun sales are through the roof.

America is terrified of what could happen next.

The team this time around is pretty much what you might remember from the first Harbinger book. Kris Hathaway, John “Torque” Torkelson, Faith “Zephyr” Herbert, and Peter Stanchek are all back and heading on a country-wide tour. The goal? to assemble a more formidable team, and show the world that they have a purpose. What is that? Well, it’s a little bit of a mystery. Though as with most of Valiant’s stuff, it’s more likely than not gonna be a fun ride.

Issue number one hits the stands on November 16th from the team of Rafer Roberts and Darick Robertson.
