As far as free games go, September should be a pretty solid month for Xbox Games with Gold gamers, with some top notch titles going free.
On the Xbox One…
Both Earthlock: Festival of Magic and Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China are freebies this coming month(ish).
Now, don’t mistake Assassin’s Creed Chronicles for the whole game, which is in three parts. This is just the first episode, which takes place in China. That’s not a bad thing, as all the game’s parts were a good time, but just so you know. Oh, and Chronicles is the 2D series, not the main AC series that you’re probably used to. I think that about covers it.
As for Earthlock… I have no idea. It looks like it has an old-schooly, JRPG feel to it though. So if you loved those back in the PSOne era, then you might want to check this one out. And it’s free, so you can’t really go wrong.
And on the Xbox 360…
Games with Gold offers a pair of winners as freebies on the 360, with both Mirror’s Edge and Forza Horizon hitting the price-chopping block.
Forza is a now-legendary racing series, that really no one who’s into racers should miss out on. Horizon was especially good too, if I remember correctly. Fantastic graphics, a wide-open feel, and some excellent controls too.
Likewise, the original (and still the best) Mirror’s Edge was first-person gold. Playing out in FPS style, but with plenty of melee combat, and a bright world of high-flying parkour to explore, it’s a gem from the 360 days that shouldn’t be missed.
Both of these games are playable on the Xbox One too, thanks tot he magic of backwards-compatibility.
Dates of availability for Games with Gold
Okay, so as usual not everything that you see here is available at the same time. And some of the items are staggered into October.
Starting on September 1st, and running till the end of the month, you’ll be able to grab a copy of Earthlock on the Xbox One. Then on the 15th of the month, Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China goes free, and will stay that way through the 15th of October.
On the 360, the same setup applies. Forza Horizon will be free to download all month, while Mirror’s Edge will hit on the 15th, and then expire on the 15th of October.
Happy gaming.
