New Vampyr screens have teeth

Set in England during the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918 which killed tens of millions, Vampyr casts you as a freshly turned vamp, one who’s also a doctor…

Vampyr-05

From Focus Home and DontNod (Life is Strange), Vampyr is fast shaping up to be one of the most interesting looking titles of 2017. Not only does the game have a chokingly-atmospheric setting to play with, but it’s set to propose some of the most gray ‘moral’ question seen in a video game. See, you won’t just be killing bad guys in Vampyr, and there isn’t a question of whether or not you’ll choose to feed your bloodlust with regular folk; the question is which ones.

As a vampire, you’ll have to eat, and your food source is blood. Human blood. To survive, you’ll have to make the hard choices as Dr. Jonathan Reid. Reid has been just turned, and is struggling to understand what’s happening to hims, while at the same time, dealing with his responsibilities – saving lives in the worst outbreak of disease sine the plague. Quite frankly, it sounds pretty fantastic, and I love the historical elements woven into the horror theme.

If DontNod can pull everything off (which they’ve got a great track record of doing) it could be another sleeper hit for the developer. There’s a while to go for this one though, as Vampyr isn’t set to launch till next year, so in the meantime, scope the screens below and sit tight – we’ll have plenty more on this one as the year rolls on.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
