DC Universe Online finally swoops onto Xbox One

Formerly a PlayStation exclusive, Warner Bros’ DC Universe Online has donned its cape and flown onto the Xbox One.

Guest starring many of DC Comics’ biggest stars (both heroes and villains), Daybreak Games’ DCUO has been around since 2011 on the PS3, before making the eventual jump to the PS4. It never appeared on the Xbox family of consoles though, well till now anyway.

“Xbox One players can finally channel their inner Super Hero – or Super-Villain. Whether they want to run fast like The Flash, fly like Superman or wield ice like Captain Cold, we have more than five years’ worth of content to adventure through in DC Universe Online,” said SJ Muller, DCUO Creative Director. “DCUO is the only MMO set in the DC Comics universe, and its physics-based combat allows players to really feel like they are part of this action-packed Super Hero world.”

They say ‘like’ in that bit of pr because you don’t actually play as one of the characters that you know and love in DC Universe Online’s campaign. Instead you play as your own creation, battling across the DCU as an original hero or villain.

Fortunately for those who’d rather play as one of the legends from DC Comics, you’re more than able to suit up as Batman, Green Lantern, or the like in the PvP or PvE modes. Even so though, the meat of DC Universe Online is the story-based content.

In the campaign, which plays out in classic MMO-style, you’ll be able to play through 20 original episodes. All of these can be bought separately, or played through via a membership, so the game is technically free-to-play. Even better for new players on the Xbox, you can access everything that’s already available on PlayStation or the PC via the Xbox One right now. Bottom line – there’s no difference in the content from platform to platform. Warner Bros promises that content will hit simultaneously across every platform in the future too.

Yep, that’s right, DCUO isn’t anywhere near done and is actually still being updated with new content and quests. This year has so far seen stuff from the Batman v Superman movie make it into the game, as well content as from the DC TV show Legends of Tomorrow. Still on the way? Water-based powers and content for “Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Darkseid and Gotham Girls”.
