E3 2014: Old school Sonic headed to the 3DS with Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal

Sonic Boom might be a massive redesign for Sega’s classic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise on the Wii U, but while the new character designs are very much in play, the game for the 3DS looks like an old friend.

Say what you like about Nintendo-exclusive Sega title Sonic Boom, but the 3DS edition (which’ll also be on the Wii U) looks like old school Sonic- just with some new takes on the character designs. You’ll also get all four of the playable characters that’ll be found in the Wii U edition of the game with Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and the newcomer Sticks all present and accounted for.

The 3DS version also presents a new story and sounds like a prequel of sorts to the Wii U edition, which certainly gives fans of the Blue Blur plenty of excuse to pick up both editions. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal dashes onto the 3DS right alongside the Wii U installment, this November.
