Sonic and Altered Beast go 3D on the 3DS

Two brand new 3D Sega Classics rise from their graves and arrive on the 3DS with 3D Sonic The Hedgehog and 3D Altered Beast today.

Last week we got Super Hang-On and Space Harrier, the first games in the new 3D Sega Classics series on 3DS- this week’s selections though, are more than a little bit better known to modern gamers. Well, one of them is at any rate.

Available for just about every console in existence today (save the next-genny’s), this version of Sonic The Hedgehog is nonetheless a first for the series as it takes advantage of the Nintendo 3DS’ three-dimensional capabilities and marks the first time a classic Sonic game has been translated into 3D formatting. Altered Beast is in the same boat, getting 3D play, though it’s just a little less of a fan-favorite than the Blue Blur’s initial outing is. I think I might have been the only fan of the game in my group of friends growing up… even if that fandom was mostly for the sheer goofiness of it. Still, if you’re asking if I’ll be picking it up on the eShop, the answer would probably be in the affirmative.

Both titles are available right now on the Nintendo eShop on the 3DS and will run you $5.99 USD each.

About Jason Micciche

Jason's been knee deep in videogames since he was but a lad. Cutting his teeth on the pixely glory that was the Atari 2600, he's been hack'n'slashing and shoot'em'uping ever since. Mainly an FPS and action guy, Jason enjoys the occasional well crafted title from every genre.
