Inhumanity #1 (Comics) Preview

Marvel’s newest flagship emerges from the ashes of Infinity and Thanos’ deadly assault on the Inhuman’s home on Earth’s moon. Things are about to get very interesting indeed for the Marvel U.

The cataclysmic events of INFINITY have left the Inhuman city of Attilan in ruins. It’s king – the mighty Black Bolt is missing and believed dead. Attilan’s destruction has unleashed the Terrigen Mists upon the planet Earth. Thousands of new Inhumans are emerging from every corner of the Marvel Universe, mutated by the vapors themselves. Possessing new and terrible powers, they emerge from their cocoons to a world changed. Who are these new Inhumans? And will they use their new powers to save the Marvel Universe? Or destroy it?

With their home destroyed and their way of life threatened – what will become of the Inhuman Royal Family? Sins and secrets of the Royal Family leads the Inhuman Karnak on a deadly collision course – with the Avengers! As Karnak begins to unearth the troubling secrets Black Bolt & Maximus have kept, he’ll discover the devastating truth behind the Inhumans storied lineage. One that will shake the entire Marvel Universe to its very core! And not everyone will come out of INHUMANITY alive!

Firstly, that cover is gorgeous. It has an almost Giant-Sized X-Men #1 feel to it and that’s just plain cool. I’ve really never been an Inhumans fan either. They went in the same file as the Fantastic Four (which is fitting, since they crossed over so much) when I was a kid and that file had ‘meh’ stamped on it.

This is a little different though. Not only were the Inhumans a very big (not to mention cool) part of Infinity, but they have a global reach now and they’re really almost like Marvel’s mutant populace in that they just sprang up out of the general global population- and now they’re everywhere.

Actually, I can imagine an Inhuman/mutant war brewing up at some point down the line- especially since they could easily be seen by Magneto-types as competition for the future dominant species on Earth (BTW- could we get back to badass, evil Mags at some point guys?). There are a ton of different things Marvel could do with the new Inhumans down the line, but for now they’ll be facing off against the Avengers and maybe learning a few things about their past through Karnak, which all sounds like something that I should be reading.

See if the Inhumans are really as noble and storied as Black Bolt led them to believe when Inhumanity #1 hits the stands from Marvel Comics and the creative team of Matt Fraction and Olivier Coipel sometime soon.
