Marvel.com names the 50 greatest X-Men of all time

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Marvel Comics’ number one mutant team, the publisher has named its picks for the top fifty characters to ever grace the pages of a book marked with an X, while introducing the all-new X-Men Gold book.

As relevant now as they’ve ever been, the X-Men first made their debut way back in 1963 and made a statement right off the bat. Now, to honor the phenomenon, Marvel has named the 50 greatest characters from throughout X-Men history. Not only will you find a bunch of your favorites on the list (guaranteed), but you’ll also spot many secondary and even tertiary characters who’ve had big impacts on the X-universe as well.

As for the nitty-gritty top ten that Marvel’s chosen, well lets just put it this way- it’s more than a little controversial in it’s placement. Check it out here.

Then when you’re done with that, make sure you have a listen to the This Week in Marvel podcast where X-editors like Nick Lowe, Jeanine Schaefer, Tom Brennan, Daniel Ketchum, Jordan D. White, and Xander Jarowney all join host Ben Morse for a discussion on their own favorite characters and plot lines. You can download that here.

And  finally, there’s X-Men Gold. The first issue of the new book will be launching this month and will include “all-new stories by legendary creators from throughout the X-Men’s rich 50 year history – including Chris Claremont, Stan Lee, Walt Simonson, Len Wein and many, many more”! Needless to say, it should be a treasure trove for long time fans who remember the days of the ’60s, ’80s, ’90s and more with reverence.

X-Men Gold #1 lands on shelves and on the digital Marvel App on November 13th.
