SDCC 20: Star Trek Universe virtual panel coming on July 23rd

Comic Con might not be happening, but there’s still a Star Trek panel to check out. That’s thanks to a special virtual presentation from CBS.

Trekking… virtually

There’s a lot to talk about these days when it comes to Star Trek. Dead for years, and only showing minimal signs of life before that, the IP made a pretty big comeback with the JJ Abrams-created alternate universe of the so-called “Kelvin Timeline”.

Since then of course, fans have gotten a prequel series in Discovery, a new sequel series in Picard, and now a goofball animated series. That might be a mixed bag for some fans, but there’s no arguing that Trek has returned and is moving forward as a property for the first time in a long time.

So of course, there’s a panel coming for Comic Con. Or at least, there was. Not to worry though, as the panel is still happening, just in a different way. With SDCC 2020’s coronavirus cancellation, some of the show has gone virtual, and the Trek panel is a part of that.

CBS will be inviting fans to check out a special back-to-back dual panel presentation on July 23rd. Hosted by Dominic Patten, the panels will feature “Secret Hideout executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin”, who will be discussing what’s coming up in the Trek universe.

Additionally, the presentation will showcase three separate spotlights, one for each of the current Trek shows. Interestingly absent is the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. That’s yet another prequel, this time starring the pre-Kirk Enterprise crew under actor Anson Mount’s Captain Pike.

Here’s what the presentations will offer:
