Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms hits Steam Early Access

Games Farm and bitComposer’s action RPG is now live through the magic of the Steam Early Access program.

An action RPG, Shadows: Heretic Kingdom looks like it’s got all the trapping of the classics of the genre with a few new ideas as well. The game sports multiple main characters to play with (each with their own “experiences, storylines, quests and overall direction”), a choice mechanic that comes into play with the game’s Karma system, and the usual assortment of “ancient legends, heroic tales and dark corrupted societies” included for good measure.

You’ll also find a soul devouring trick that sounds pretty awesome depending on how it’s utilized. Souls of enemies and friends (and lovers apparently) can be consumed and kept on hand for opinions, advise, and even arguments as they bicker with each other. That’s definitely something different and could be pretty neat.

And if you grab all that on Early Access now, you’ll be getting it for less. The entire first chapter of the game, which includes ten maps and locations, two playable characters, and  a boss fight, can be yours for a 30% discount off the usual asking price. Eventually, this version of the game will run you $39.99 USD, but for the first week it’s only $27.99 USD, which is pretty solid.

As time goes by, way more will of course be added into the Early Access version until it basically becomes the retail edition. Games Farm is promising that “features like voiced dialogues and a crafting system will be added, as well as new quests, items and new playable characters.” So the game will evolve till it’s done, which’ll basically be this Fall as that’s when the flu version is set to be released on the PC via Steam, GreenmanGaming, Uplay and GamersGate.
