Ubisoft shows off Assassin’s Creed IV’s naval warfare in new trailer

Game Director Ashraf Ismail takes on an enemy ship and captures a fort in one smooth, continuous engagement.

Just when I think it’s impossible to be more impressed with what Ubisoft is doing in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, they go and release a trailer like this one.

The scope of Black Flag is something to see in motion. Normally, I’d expect the above engagement to consist of at least two parts (maybe three), with a ship-to-ship segment and then a cutaway to Kenway entering and knocking over the fort in question. That the game actually is one big world, with little to no segmentation once you’re engaged in a mission is flat out cool.

Ismail also pointed out in that trailer that the naval confrontation could have easily taken place in stormy conditions, at night, or even with an greater enemy force at your fore. If that’s the case, then combat in Black Flag will be something that you can never really have any certainty about- a fact that’d make the game not only more realistic than any AC before it, but also a heck of a lot more fun.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag arrives for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC on October 29th with Xbox One and PS4 editions docking soon after those consoles hit the shelves this November.
