Reef Entertainment secures the rights to the classic sci-fi franchise.
The UK-based company has just announced that they’ve taken on the rights to both The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day. So, in other words, the two good ones.
A Reef spokesperson said: ‘Here at Reef we are huge fans of 1984 & 1991 Sci-Fi action master-pieces. It’s an incredible opportunity and an equally huge responsibility to create a game that does great justice to the motion-pictures. We are studying all aspects and influences of the Terminator universe defined in Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. We have started on our journey and are drawing on all the diverse materials available to produce a high quality, authentic and exciting Terminator video game.’
He’s absolutely right there. Not only is The Terminator one of the most celebrated classics in sci-fi, but T2 was an absolute revelation when it was released and still holds up every bit as well today. The Terminator franchise might have hit some hard times as of late, but there’s no doubt that the name is still held in lofty regard among fans.
So what does this news mean for gamers? Well, hopefully it’ll mean a playable Terminator game. There’ve been almost as many stabs at making something like that as there’ve been attempts at making another movie that ‘works’ like the first two. So far, no luck, but maybe Terminators: The Video Game will change all that.
There’s no word yet on just what this new game will entail (or why there’s an ‘s’ at the end of Terminator in the name), but we’ll have more on it as soon as we hear something.
