Unity #1 debuts Neal Adams variant cover

The legendary artist’s work will be featured on a variant cover for the Valiant Comics super-team megabook.

To kill a king…he has created an army. The world’s most dangerous man, Toyo Harada, has been struck by the one thing he never thought possible – fear. Halfway across the globe, a new power threatens to topple modern civilization and, to preempt the cataclysm that is to come, Harada will unite the most lethal, most volatile, most unforgiving team the world has ever known – UNITY. Their mission: defeat the threat responsible for the destruction of MI-6, the decimation of an alien world, and the occupation of Eastern Europe… Unseat the warrior king armed with the universe’s most powerful weapon… Kill X-O Manowar!

Unity is the newest ongoing series from Valiant Comics and sees the universe’s heaviest hitters teaming up to take out what they perceive as the world’s biggest threat – X-O Manowar. Coming from the pen of Matt Kindt and artist Doug Braithwaite, Unity is also going to feature one very special alternate cover by none other than Neal Adams. Adams joins a list of top shelf talent already crafting variant covers for Unity, including: Bryan Hitch, J.G. Jones, Travel Foreman, Paolo Rivera and Clayton Crain.

As much weight as Adams’ name brings to the book though, the artist is quick to point out that he’s not the only reason to buy into Unity.

“Any cover promotion you see for this book is a mere reflection of the work you will see inside. Valiant is climbing the ladder that will lead to a new pinnacle of success in your comic book reading. Don’t pass this bad boy by,” said Adams.

Getting someone like Adams to join on and create a pretty awesome piece of cover art (as you can see in the image above) for the first issue of Unity is a big deal, no doubt, but he’s more than likely correct in laying the accolades on the actual story in the book itself. Valiant has been absolutely on fire since their reintroduction last year and has produced a full slate of great titles with super-varied themes, month in and month out.

Whether or not Unity will follow suit is still up in the air, but it won’t be too long before we find out as Unity #1 assaults comic shelves on November 13th.
