A classic puzzle experience is about to make the leap to virtual reality, with Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities for Meta VR.

Is there a bigger puzzle game, and we mean in history, than Tetris? First released on the PC in the mid-80s, Tetris really became a phenomenon in 1989. That was the year that it leaped onto Nintendo’s Game Boy, for the first of many (many) appearances. Speaking of, there’s another platform that’s about to welcome in a fresh version of the puzzler.
Yes, that’d be virtual reality. Specifically, we’re talking about Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Those headsets have been revealed to be the new home of the Tetris Effect series, from Enhance and developer Monstars. And although the news is slim right now, we do know it won’t be straight-up VR.
Officially titled Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities, this upcoming title sounds like it might have the most interesting twist on the formula yet. We’ve seen VR versions of Tetris Effect before after all, but the promise of mixed reality could serve up some truly unique play opportunities.
For now, we’ve got a very brief bit of info from Enhance to share with you.
For now, we can tell you that it’s a mind-blowing reinvention of Tetris Effect that uses the full power of MR and the absorbing gameplay of Tetris to transport you into magical, musical realms. Your room transforms into a deep-sea aquarium, remote space station, and more, as you build—Tetrimino by Tetrimino—gateways to other dimensions that blur the line between the real and the virtual.

Sounds pretty slick to us, and we can’t wait to see what the completed game actually looks like. Right now though, that’s still a ways off. Although the game was made official at the Meta Connect 2026 presentation the other day, its launch is set for some time in 2027.
