Street Fighter in action
We’ve already seen a fair bit of Paramount Pictures, Legendary Pictures, and director Kitao Sakurai’s Street Fighter. Glimpses here and there, of multiple classic characters in action, have graced a handful of early looks to date. None of those though, have been all that substantial. And while we wouldn’t exactly call this week’s clip ‘deep’, it’s definitely packing a heck of a lot more than what we’ve seen so far.
Focusing on two iconic Street Fighters, this new look delivers a brawl that’s played out in the video games for decades. That, as you can see above, would be Ryu vs Blanka. A pair of characters that starred in 1991’s Street Fighter II (though Ryu debuted I the original game), these combatants might not be mortal foes, but have nonetheless been in the mix from day one. We’ll add though, that it looks as though the new movie will change some things up a tad.
From the looks of it, this brawl takes place in what might be main villain M.Bison’s stronghold. Either that, or some kind of prison. A big cue to the latter might be the jumpsuits, as everyone in the clip (except Bison) is wearing prison orange. Ryu and Blanka being held by Shadaloo? It certainly seems like that could be the case.
Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!
Helmed by director Kitao Sakurai, Street Fighter is set to bring the battle from the arcade to the big screen with Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all your favorite characters.
