Tickets go on sale for Mortal Kombat II in IMAX

The biggest movie screens in the world are set to host the latest Mortal Kombat movie, as tickets are on sale now.

Continuing to look pretty great is the upcoming Mortal Kombat sequel. The sequel to the 2021 reboot, Mortal Kombat II will present the next chapter in the saga, headlined by a new hero. Well, he’s not new for fans of the games, though Johnny Cage will make his debut in the new movie series regardless.

The longtime Earthrealm hero will be brought to life by actor Karl Urban, as he joins a cadre of familiar faces. The likes of Raiden, Kano, and Scorpion will be back in action, joined by Kitana, Baraka, and Shao Khan himself.

As with most of the bigger blockbusters these days too, the sequel will indeed be heading to IMAX. The massive screened theaters will welcome in the action flick in on launch day, May 8th.

From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II. This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.

Mortal Kombat II was shot with IMAX certified cameras, and features 45 minutes of expanded aspect ratio. The aim there is to give audiences the “unprecedented scale and detail”, according to the company. While there’s more to see in general, it sounds like fans can also look for punchier visuals in general.

To that end, the film has been enhanced “frame-by-frame using IMAX’s proprietary Digital Media Remastering (DMR) technology”. That should shake out to mean boosts in detail, clarity, and color. And on top of that, the IMAX version of the movie will also be going big on sound.

The company says that a custom sound mix has been created, just for its version of the film.
