DC reveals Summer of Supergirl Special, and more

DC Comics is set to celebrate the big screen return of Supergirl, with a brand new one-shot. Look for Summer of Supergirl Special this June.

Supergirl returns to the DCU

We mean that subheading in a few ways too. For one thing, there’s the movie. Coming to theaters on June 26th, the Maid of Might will be headlining her own big screen adventure for the first time since 1984’s original. Of course, that’s not the last time the was ‘a’ Supergirl on film.

That more recent outing was in 2023’s The Flash, though the upcoming version of the character seems much different than either of her previous incarnations. Actress Milly Alcock will be taking over the role, for a story that will be very much a part of the new DCU shared-universe. It’s also set to introduce a familiar DC character for the first time in a film, with Jason Momoa’s Lobo.

And if you’re pumped for that, get ready, because DC Comics has a bit of a summer event planned too. It’s a schedule loaded with appearances by the character, and led by the Summer of Supergirl Special. Don’t worry though, because the book won’t be a direct adaptation of the film. And we say that even though it’ll feature not just Supergirl, but the Main Man.

Lobo’s back

Before we get to anything else, the Summer of Supergirl Special #1, will be a 48-page one-shot issue. It’s set to hit stores on June 24th, 2026, leading the way for much more. Fans can look for the title to serve up three stories, with the lead tale spinning out of the team of writer Sophie Campbell and artist Belén Ortega. Mark Waid and Cian Tormey will follow on that, with the book rounded out by Gail Simone and Emma Kubert.

DC’s Summer of Supergirl continues with Summer of Supergirl Special #1, a 48-page one-shot arriving June 24. This celebratory anthology brings together an all-star roster of writers and artists for a trio of stories honoring Kara Zor-El’s legacy across the DC Universe.

In the lead story by Sophie Campbell and Belén Ortega, the quiet town of Midvale is shaken when Supergirl comes face-to-face with the galactic bounty hunter Lobo. Can the Maiden of Might stand up to the Main Man? DC’s Summer of Supergirl Special also features two bonus stories—one by Mark Waid and Cian Tormey, and another by Gail Simone and Emma Kubert—each celebrating Supergirl as she resumes her rightful place as the Heir to El.

Summer of Supergirl Special #1 is written by Sophie Campbell, Mark Waid, and Gail Simone, with art by Belén Ortega, Cian Tormey, and Emma Kubert. The main cover is illustrated by Ortega, with variant covers by Tula Lotay and Pablo Villalobos, plus a Supergirl movie variant cover by Mahmud Asrar.

DC Comics press release

The Summer of Supergirl Special #1 is looking like the main event for DC Comics’ summer. But, as mentioned, there’s more Kara Zor-El on tap. To that end, the publisher says that this summer will also bring Supergirl: Survive, an Elseworlds tale.

Want more? Facsimile editions of both Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #23 and Lobo #1 are coming too. On top of those, an art book will be hitting with DC W.I.P.: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1, plus a set of variant covers will grace DC’s lineup. Now that’s one heaping helping of Supergirl action.
