Turok: Origins coming to Switch 2, releases this fall

Classic FPS Turok is coming back. Today’s Nintendo Direct revealed that it’ll be making its prehistoric return on Switch 2.

I. Am. Turok.

Any N64 player, especially someone who was playing back in the 90s, could tell you how big Turok: Dinosaur Hunter was. The original game in the series was a massive hit for that console. Starring the comic-book Son of Stone himself, the first-person shooter furthered the idea that the genre could flourish outside of its original platform.

Two sequels were spawned, as well as a spinoff, before the franchise stumbled through a pair of reboots. That’s been it for a while, though Saber Interactive recently revealed that the hero was set for a revival. Well, kind of. The fresh adventure, entitled Turok: Origins, will be a fair shake different than what’s come before.

Featuring both first and third person modes, this new game will star a trio of warriors who hold the mantle. And while it’ll be playable solo, it’ll have a co-op multiplayer option as well. There’s also an interesting new gimmick in play. While the original games were all about straight forward action, Turok: Origins will allow players to use the DNA of fallen enemies to upgrade their characters. Kinda neat, that.

In any event, the game had been confirmed for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Apparently though, it just can’t be contained. Thanks to today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, we now know that Turok: Origins will be coming to the Switch 2 as well.

In Turok: Origins, players will take on the mantle of the ancient Order of the Turok, heroic guardians of unimaginable power locked in a battle for survival against ferocious creatures and a terrifying alien threat that seeks to destroy all human life in the galaxy. Unleash devastating attacks on enemies with powerful weapons and abilities in both first-person and third-person action, harnessing fallen foes’ DNA to upgrade your arsenal. Embark on a high-stakes adventure across the treacherously beautiful Lost Lands, on your own or together with friends, and unravel the mysteries that hold the key to saving humanity.

There’s no release date just yet for Turok: Origins for any platform, but you can expect to see it some time this fall. Once again too, it’ll be coming to the PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
