Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage battles to Switch 2 in March

Sega’s Virtua Fighter revival continues. This time the latest revision of the fighting game is heading to Nintendo’s Switch 2.

Virtua Fighter 5 to go

Fans of the long running Virtua Fighter series have had quite a few options if they wanted to try the latest revision of the series. Virtual Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. is available for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox after all. But there’s another platform that you can add to the list now, or least there soon will be, and its bringing Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage to fans.

That’ll be the heading, as the fight game makes its arrival for the Switch 2. Nintendo’s latest console will enter Sega’s arena next month, on March 26th, 2026. Kind of interesting too, is that this’ll be the first time that any Virtua Fighter game has appeared on a Nintendo-branded console. So this will be kind of a milestone.

The port will feature cross-play as well, meaning that players will be able to battle others online, no matter where they might be playing. The cross-play involves the Switch 2 edition (obviously), plus the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam versions, and again, play will be across the board.

From the looks of it too, there won’t be much of a disparity between this new version and the others. Thanks to the announcement trailer below, we can see it’ll be arriving in pretty sharp form.

Pre-orders are live, and a beta is en route

Now that the game’s official, and heading to retail in March, you best believe that Sega has pre-orders open. Fans can secure a Switch 2 copy of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage as you read this, in both physical and digital form. And if they do so, they’ll be in for a 16bit-flavored treat.

That’d be the “Genesis” customization option, which of course takes its name from the company’s legendary console. Just what it might be is a little bit of a mystery, however we do know that this item can be equipped by any of the base characters in the game.

As for editions, there’ll be three of them. The digital edition has a pair of possibilities, coming in the form of either a standard or “30th Anniversary Edition”. As for the physical version, that’ll tout the same content as the 30th (plus it’ll include a poster), and that content does look to include a fair amount of bonuses.

Bundled in with the 30th Anniversary Edition will be:

  • Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage base game
  • Legendary Pack DLC
  • Yakuza Series Collaboration Pack DLC
  • Virtua Fighter 30th Anniversary Swimsuit Costume Set, Soundtrack Collection, and Ranking Titles
  • Virtua Fighter Pre-Production Artwork
Sega press release

If you do opt for the standard digital release, be aware that the 30th Anniversary Edition‘s (included) “paid DLC” packs will be made available separately. We assume Sega means the Legendary Pack and the Yakuza Series Collaboration Pack with that, though the press release isn’t terribly clear. Whichever ones will be sold a’la carte though, you can expect to see them posted when the game launches.

Finally, rounding things out, there’s that Beta Test. Sega says that the Beta will kick off on February 19th, and will focus on “network servers and cross-play performance”. This is an Open Beta, so it’s open to all fans, though they will of course need a Switch 2 console and Nintendo Switch Online subscription in order to get in on the action.
