The Punisher to roll into ongoing series in February

If you’re digging The Punisher in Red Band, stay tuned. Marvel is bringing that action to an ongoing series.

Finally, The Punisher is back

It wasn’t all that long ago, that Frank Castle was written out of Marvel’s universe, a happening that took place in his most recent run. He was turned into the super-powered head of the Hand, almost becoming a straight-up villain, before he was defeated and ushered out of sight. Heck, he was even replaced by a new high-tech fill-in. All of that was then though, and this is now.

Last month saw the resurgence of the original Punisher, back for revenge, and his memory. Apparently Frank is lacking the latter, and carving a new swath through the Marvel Universe to figure out what exactly happened to him. In the case of The Punisher: Red Band too, things are going to get a little over the top. So much so, that Marvel is encasing the title’s issues in polybags.

And while that comic is just getting started on its five issue run, there’s already a follow-up. the new book will spin out of the events of the miniseries, but will effectively be the new ongoing series for the character.

It Should have some continuity of style as well. Although José Luis Soares will be picking up the art chores, writer Benjamin Percy will be at the helm. And if you don’t know, he’s currently penning the aforementioned Red Band.

One of Frank’s oldest foes returns

Kicking things off for the fresh run this February, will be an old face too. Or maybe we should say ‘faces’, since this villain is a little… piecemeal. Yep, it’s going to be none other than Jigsaw for the new comic’s first foe. The mobster with the carved up face has been a thorn in The Punisher‘s side for a long time, and will be making his triumphant return to start the new series’ action.

CRIME’S WORST NIGHTMARE RETURNS!

As unflinching and uncompromising as ever, Frank Castle’s memory is damaged, and he’s hunting for answers and criminals alike! He’ll get more than he bargained for of both when the notorious and bloodthirsty JIGSAW returns…with THE PUNISHER dead in his sights!

Punisher: Red Band was a new beginning for Frank Castle—and an unrelenting assault,” Percy explained. “The book was polybagged, because it was a biohazard, dripping with blood. Now that you know we aren’t fooling around, we’re entering a new phase of storytelling that will serve both as a continuation of Red Band and a fresh start for new readers.

“I’m joined in the dark alleys and rusting warehouses of New York by José Luis on pencils and Oren Junior on inks,” he continued. “Jose is stretching his incredible art in a new direction, channeling all the grit and scars and shadows you’d expect from Frank’s cracked-window view of the world. You’ll be amazed and disturbed by the grounding detail and physical menace and brutal action he’s bringing to this story. And who better to cast as our villain—in a story about Frank picking up the broken, jagged pieces of himself—than one of the greatest Marvel baddies: Jigsaw. Get ready. This is gonna hurt.”
