Jurassic World arrives for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on PC

The Jurassic World series comes to life in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Players can fly the famed islands, and even spot some dinos.

Welcome…

First hatching into theaters back in 1993, Jurassic Park was a phenomenon. The movie, which adapted the Michael Crichton book about an ill-fated theme park filled with dinosaurs, took over theaters that summer, and spawned a pair of sequels. That was the original series, but years later Jurassic World would pick up the story, presenting a continuing series of films. It even just saw another sequel green-lit, with Scarlett Johansson once again in the lead role.

Along with the films, video games have explored the Jurassic franchise to a huge degree. We’ve seen traditional action fare, from the 8 and 16bit eras to modern consoles, as well as graphic adventures and more. But today’s news, well, it’s altogether different from any of that. And mainly, that’s because it’s an expansion pack for the PC edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

No stranger to pop culture, the long-lived sim series will indeed play host to the Jurassic islands. That comes via the new Jurassic World: Archipelago downloadable content, which includes Isla Nublar, Isla Sorna, and the Muertes Archipelago islands. The new pack hails from Orbx, in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, but doesn’t stop at just terrain.

A Jurassic World comes alive

Sure, you’re able to fly over the above islands in Jurassic World: Archipelago, and explore them from the air. But this is Jurassic World that we’re talking about, and you kind of need the main event for it to truly bring the movies to life. Fortunately, that’s just what Orbx is dishing out with the expansion pack.

The developer calls the just-released pack “a unique blend of cinematic storytelling and scenic flying”, and it definitely looks and sounds like all of that.

Players will find plenty of lush terrain to fly over, as well as airfields and helipads to land on and take off from. But as you can see above, the real fun comes in spotting the dinosaurs. Orbx says that “dinosaurs and reptiles roam land, water, and skies” in the DLC, and there are even “Jurassic World themed missions” to take part in.

It’s not all thunder lizards though, as flight buffs will find fresh aircraft included as well. According to the press release, “aircraft liveries and unique flight activities” are “integrated into gameplay”. And yes, there are exclusive aircraft liveries on board as well.

Jurassic World: Archipelago is out right now as well, if you’re itching for this new foray into the prehistoric. While this release is an expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on the PC, stay tuned for more. Orbx says that dino fans will eventually be able to take to the skies for Xbox, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, and X-Plane as well. So stay tuned for news on those releases.
