A book that brought together zombies and military action, Image Comics’ ’68 is getting a compendium this Halloween.
In the… well, you know
Two themes you don’t see mingled all that often, ’68 combined both horror and military, and did it with gusto. A set of mini-series’ that ran for a total of 30 issues from Image Comics, ’68 hailed from Mark Kidwell, Nat Jones, and Jay Fotos.

On February 13, 1968, during the darkest days of the Vietnam War, the gates of Hell opened wide, unleashing new and hungry life into the countless war-torn dead. Junkyard Joe meets The Walking Dead in this military-horror mashup.
From the original ’68 one-shot, to the first four-issue miniseries, the introduction and first appearance of the legendary “Jungle Jim” and beyond, ’68 Compendium is the definitive ’68 collection and offers up every red, dripping bit. The entire series, the one-shots, and the short backup stories, are all included in full jaw-snapping, flesh-rending color. Fans should get “small” in their foxhole and keep their powder dry.

Just in time for Halloween
Actually arriving first as a one-shot in 2006, there are a total of six volumes to ’68. Each of those ran for four issues, with additional one-shots thrown in for good measure. So with all of that in mind, it might be a little tough to assemble a collection.
If that’s something you might want to do though, then you might be interested in what Image Comics is cooking up for this October. That’s right, the dead are about to rise once again, with the ’68 Compendium. This time too, they’ll be busting out of their graves it in style. The massive upcoming book will include what looks to be everything under the title, serving up 752 pages of action.
Image has some kind of timing with this latest tome as well, as the publisher will be bringing ’68 Compendium to stores for Halloween. While it’s not landing right on the spooky holiday, it will be arriving on October 21st. That should give readers more than enough time to grab a copy for themselves, and get ready for a chilling All Hallows read.
Pre-orders are open for ’68 Compendium now, and you can check out some quotes from the creative team below.
“It’s been a long time coming,” said Fotos. “I’m very excited to get this compendium out to the world!”
Kidwell added: “It’s great to see ’68 rise again, in all its gory glory, collected into one massive volume! Perfect Halloween read!”
