A celebration for 30 years of Heroes of Might & Magic on tap for September

While there isn’t a new game releasing, Ubisoft is nonetheless about to celebrate a Heroes of Might & Magic milestone.

Happy birthday

Believe it or not, it’s been 30 years since Heroes of Might & Magic originally launched onto the PC. Spinning off of the much older mainline series, Heroes brought the mystical world of Might & Magic to the turn-based strategy realm for the first time, and was a hit with fans.

Ironically, it’s probably much better known than the set of games that spawned it at this point. Though maybe that’s not so odd, since it’s also been much more active that it’s forebear, over the decades that it’s been in existence. Coincidently too, that’s where this coming October 9th comes in, as publisher Ubisoft celebrates Heroes of Might & Magic‘s birthday.

While there is a new game in the works, it’s in Early Access now and not set to debut at retail for a while. So this celebration will be of the ‘online’ variety, with a “series of special events”, according to Ubisoft. The first announcements are official now, and will start with that October stream, and it looks pretty loaded.

According to the publisher, the stream “will feature interviews about the franchise’s past, present, and future, plus special appearances by Archon Studio, makers of Heroes of Might Magic board games, as well as Unfrozen Studio, the developers of Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.” Fans can also expect “announcements, giveaways, and community contests”.

On contests, votes, and a tourney

As for those contests, there’s one open right now. Ubi invites fans to submit their “fan art, cosplay, crafts, films, or other creative works” via email or the Heroes of Might & Magic Discord. Doing so will get your work into consideration to actually be shown on the stream. If you’d prefer the former method, then you’ll want to email mightandmagic_event at ubisoft.com. The latter? Click over to the HOMM Discord here.

Along with that, fans can also vote right now as to which tracks from the various Heroes of Might and Magic soundtracks will be a part of an upcoming recording. That will feature the “Heroes Orchestra”, who’ll be recording said tracks live. If you’d like to partake in the vote, you can do so via the linked Discord above, or HOMM‘s various other social accounts.

And last but not least, there’s a tournament that’s rolling now. In that, players will “vie for glory in competitive matches of Heroes of Might and Magic III”, across a series of matches. It looks like those are indeed happening right now too, and you can get the full skinny on them by clicking here.

Speaking of, if you want more details on any of the above, or really everything HOMM, click here for the official site.
