SDCC ’25: The decade-long road to DC Comics’ 100th anniversary starts this week

DC Comics is turning 100 in 2035, and the publisher is starting a 10 year long celebration at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Party of the year(s)

It’s almost hard to believe, but the iconic DC Comics is heading towards an incredible 100 years of publication. It is a fact though, as it all began for the house of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman back in 1935. Now, you might be asking why we’re talking about the big year now, if it doesn’t take place for another decade. The answer is easy, and it’s because DC will be holding a ten year-long party for the main event.

Every year between now and 2035, DC will explore another decade in its history, and that starts this very year with 1935-1945. To be more precise, it starts this Comic Con, as this year’s San Diego mega-event kicks off tomorrow with preview night.

Join DC at Comic-Con 2025, where DC begins a decade-long celebration of comics, culminating in 100 years of publishing the World’s Greatest DC Super Heroes!

In 2025, DC enters the final decade of its first 100 years. With reverence for the past and an embrace of the future, DC plans to celebrate every era of its storied history annually in 10-year increments, starting at the beginning: 1935-1945. The 2025 DC Booth will feature art and experiences from this first decade of publication, where it all started. From Golden Age beginners to iconic legacies this nascent age was a time of unprecedented creation and saw the birth of not only DC, but of the comic book art form with DC’s New Fun #1, DC Super Heroes, and the DC Trinity: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

Double-decker party

The event will be found in DC Comics’ multi-level booth on the show floor, #4544, and it sounds like a good time indeed. There fans will find a full-on recreation of a classic newsstand, complete with copies of an SDCC exclusive Daily Planet.

Inside the ‘paper’ fans will find ads pulled right from comics’ golden age, featuring classic DC “heroes and adventures”. That’s not all though, as the publisher says that Metropolis’ finest paper will also come stocked with “first looks at some of DC’s most anticipated titles releasing this year, as well as DC’s panel schedule and events offered during Comic-Con 2025.”

If you’ll be heading to the booth, then you’ll find it open throughout the Con, from July 23rd through the 27th. Those who are there on the 24th will be in for a special treat, as there’ll be “an epic celebration” happening from 5pm to 6pm, according to DC. You might want to dress for the occasion too, as the company notes that attendees should suit up in their “finest Golden Age cosplay”.
