Soundwave superior, as the Decepticon joins LEGO’s Transformers lineup

One of the best-loved Decepticons of all time, Soundwave is joining LEGO’s Transformers series, and bringing his lil buddies too.

Ravage, eject, Laserbeak eject

Is there a Generation 1 Transformers fan who doesn’t like Soundwave? If there is, we haven’t met them, as the Decepticon has been Megatron’s right hand bot since day one, and a perennial favorite for the Cybertronian faithful.

It’s kind of easy to see why, since the blue-hued intelligence officer and spy not only turns into a sweet tape deck, but he also can jettison a set of minions in the form of cassettes. And those little guys aren’t throwaway characters themselves either, as Ravage, Laserbeak, and others have become staple villains in their own rights.

Well, if you’re a fan of all of the above, then you’re going to want to see what LEGO is cooking up as the next addition to its Transformers series of buildable figures. That’s right, joining the likes of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee is the series’ first Decepticon, with the LEGO Icons TRANSFORMERS Soundwave Set.

Naturally the set’s version of Soundwave will be fully transformable, but as a nice little bonus, the aforementioned Ravage and Laserbeak are included as a part of the set. Fans even get a miniature version of his alt-form.

The LEGO Icons Soundwave set invites builders to build a highly detailed version of the legendary TRANSFORMERS character. With 1,505 pieces, the set features posable joints, a working cassette bay, and seamless conversion between robot and cassette player modes – without disassembly. Pressing Soundwave’s play button activates specially recorded voice and sound effects, offering an interactive, first-ever twist with sound.

Accompanying Soundwave are two buildable cassette companions: Ravage and Laserbeak, that convert into miniature cassette tapes, fitting snugly into Soundwave’s chest compartment. Accessories including a rocket pod, laser blaster, and darts add to the set’s action-packed authenticity. A display plaque showcasing Soundwave’s power statistics makes this a perfect centerpiece for home or office display. This new set adds a villainous Decepticon to the existing the LEGO Icons TRANSFORMERS lineup, which also includes the LEGO Icons Optimus Prime set and the LEGO Icons Bumblebee set.
