Preview: Frank’s Back in this fall’s The Punisher: Red Band

Forget replacements and watered-down versions of the one and only Punisher, as Frank Castle returns to the Marvel universe this fall.

Polybagged for your protection

It’s been a rocky road for sure, as goes Marvel’s hardest hitting vigilante, The Punisher. A few years ago the publisher ditched the classic skull logo for the character, and then worked Frank Castle out of the Marvel universe, following a storyline that many longtime fans thought was a misstep. There was more too, as Frank’s mantle was picked up by a former SHIELD agent named Joe Garrison, who used a more gadget-centric approach to crime fighting.

But if none of the above worked for you, then you’re going to love what’s coming up this fall. Namely, that’s the return of the original, in a mini-series entitled The Punisher: Red Band. Expect bullets, blood, and a Punisher who’s got a bit of the old amnesia.

The five issue series will hail from Hellverine’s writer Benjamin Percy and artist Julius Otha, and will actually be polybagged for explicit content. Now that sounds promising…

Reread and reload, True Believers – Frank Castle is BACK. With no memories, a full clip and a thirst for wrathful vengeance, his violent search for answers could only be chronicled in a Red Band series! Bullets will fly, blood will flow, and the citizens and criminals of New York City alike will fear the name THE PUNISHER!

“Frank Castle—that dark-hearted, vengeance machine, that monster who fights monsters—is one of my all-time favorite characters, and Punisheris a series I’ve been gunning to write for a long, long time,” Percy shared. “Not only is Frank back in black, but this is a Red Band book. You know what that means. I’m going to lean in fully and push the very limits of my favorite genre: hairy psychopaths. This is going to be as gritty and bloody as it gets. Street-level mayhem awaits you. And Julius Ohta—who I collaborated with previously on Hellverine—is bringing all the blood and fire and rage to the page with his beautiful, terrifying art.”

Check out covers by Marco Checchetto and E.M. Gist along with a Hidden Gem cover by industry legend Mark Zeck. Plus, get your first look at Punisher’s new chapter with a lettered preview. Stay tuned for more news and preorder PUNISHER: RED BAND #1 at your local comic shop today!
