Cubic Odyssey brings sci-fi, voxely action to PC this month

Cubic Odyssey sets players in a voxel-based universe where the sci-fi action can roll from planet to space, and back again.

A magical mystery tour

From Gaijin Entertainment and Atypical Games, Cubic Odyssey is looking like something that genre fans might want to keep an eye on. While it does have a passing resemblance to the now-iconic Minecraft, the game looks like it goes a good deal beyond that crafting classic, stirring in a little open-galaxy exploration and action.

Yes, there are voxel-based graphics and there’s building and harvesting of resources, but Cubic Odyssey includes what seems to be way more action than Minecraft ever did. Plus, thanks to the theme, the game will allow players to head into the great beyond, travel the stars, and visit strange new worlds (to borrow a phrase).

In Cubic Odyssey, players explore the galaxy where every star system and hundreds of planets are unique and hide many mysteries to uncover. They choose one of four classes and fight back the Red Darkness menace, which consumes planets and threatens all life. It’s possible to build anything here out of the blocks, ranging from modest outposts to gigantic space battleships. Adventures await both on the planet surface and in open space, where players shoot down pirates, mine resources from the asteroids, and trade with NPCs at orbital stations.

Gaijin Entertainment press release

Engage your own journey in Adventure Mode, or team up with your buddies for a little co-op play, when Cubic Odyssey arrives for the PC this month, on May 14th.
