A lesser known hero in DC’s pantheon, Mr. Terrific is getting the full origin treatment before he hits the big screen this summer.
Terrific
While Superman is certainly set to be the star of this summer’s spectacle film of the same name, it’s pretty well known that it’ll also be loaded with side-characters. From Guy Gardner to Hawkgirl, James Gunn’s latest flick looks to be pretty packed. And right there with all the other superheroes of the DCU, will be Mr. Terrific.
The modern incarnation of a classic Justice Society hero, Mr. Terrific has been around for a while at this point. But even though his origins are not all that well known, that’s about to change thanks to the latest addition to DC Comics’ All In lineup.
Debuting this summer, Mr. Terrific: Year One will tell a more detailed tale of Michael Holt. Once an inventor and CEO of his own company, Holt blamed himself for the deaths of his wife and child, almost doing the unthinkable. The new book will tell that tale, but will split its time between the past and present, where Holt attempts to discover what happened to Darkseid after the close of the DC All In Special.

Brilliant young inventor Michael Holt’s life was destined for greatness…yet everything screeched to a halt when his wife Paula and unborn son were killed in a car accident. The Holts once shared ambitious dreams of using their technology to help others, but after the tragedy, Michael retreats from society and sells Holt Industries to mysterious and craven tech billionaire Athena Prescott.
The domino effect of Michael’s actions set off an explosive chain of events that take a not-so-ordinary man from the depths of despair to the heights of heroism! Meanwhile, in the present day, Mr. Terrific continues his research into what became of Darkseid after the events of the DC All In Special…and comes to realize that his past and the present might be inextricably linked…
“I was really focused on bringing Michael’s life to a full-circle moment,” said Mr. Terrific: Year One writer Al Letson. “I don’t want to give too much away, but I wanted the stories about Mr. Terrific and the wider DC Universe to build to a moment where looking back at Michael’s past was necessary to understand the present.”
